Today we will practice writing a short description of a city. This description is written in Arabic. I will include the description with an English translation and will explain the meaning word by word.

By doing this exercise, I hope you can memorize the word (Arabic vocabularies that are related to a place and a city) easier.

I choose to write a short description of Riyadh, the capital city of  Saudi Arabia.

مَدِيْنَةُ الرِّيَاضِ
Riyadh city

مَدِيْنَةُ الرِّيَاضِ هِيَ عَاصِمَةُ الْمَمْلَكَةِ الْعَرَبِيَّةِ السُّعُودِيَّةِ
Riyadh is capital city of  Saudi Arabia.

مَدِيْنَةُ الرِّيَاضِ جَمِيْلَةٌ
Riyadh is beatiful city.

مَبَانِيهَا حَدِيْثَةٌ 
The buildings are modern.

شَوَارِعُهَا نَظِيْفَةٌ
The streets are clean.

أَبْرَاجُهَا عَالِيَةٌ 
The towers are high.

حَدَائِقُهَا وَاسِعَةٌ
The gardens are spacious.

أَسْوَاقهَا كَثِيرَةٌ
The markets are plentiful.

Arabic Vocabulary about city and place


مَدِيْنَةٌ (madiinatun) means city.

عَاصِمَةٌ ('aaṣimatun) = capital city.

جَمِيْلَةٌ (jamiilatun) is female form of جَمِيْلٌ (jamiilun). جَمِيْلٌ means beautiful.

مَبَانٍ (mabaani) or الْمَبَانِي is plural form of مَبْنًى (mabnaa). مَبْنًى means building.

حَدِيْثَةٌ (ḥadiithatun) is a female form of حَدِيْثٌ (hadiithun). حَدِيْثٌ means modern.

شَوَارِعُ (shawaari'u) is the plural form of شَارِعٌ (shaari'un). شَارِعٌ means street.

نَظِيْفَةٌ (naẓiifatun) is a female form of نَظِيْفٌ (naẓiifun). نَظِيْفٌ means clean.

أَبْرَاجٌ (abraajun) is the plural form of بُرْجٌ (burjun). بُرْجٌ means tower.

عَالِيَةٌ ('aaliyatun) is female form of عَالِيٌ ('aaliyun). عَالِيٌ means high.

حَدَائِقُ (ḥadaa-iqu) is plural form of حَدِيقَةٌ (ḥadiiqatun). حَدِيقَةٌ means garden/park.

وَاسِعَةٌ (waasi'atun) is a female form of وَاسِعٌ (waasi'un). وَاسِعٌ means spacious/large.

أَسْوَاقٌ (aswaaqun) is plural form of سُوْقٌ (suuqun). سُوْقٌ means market.

كَثِيرَةٌ (kathiiratun) is a female form of كَثِيرٌ (kathiirun). كَثِيرٌ means plentiful/a lot.

سَكَنَ - يَسْكُنُ (sakana - yaskunu), means living; reside in.

شِقَّةٌ (shiqqatun) means an apartment.

فُنْدُقٌ (funduqun) means hotel.

قَرِيْبٌ (qariibun) means near.

نِهَايَةٌ (nihayatun) means end; last part.

مَطَارٌ (maṭaarun) means airport.

قَرْيَةٌ (qaryatun) means village.
