Quran Vocabulary List From Surah al-Fatihah:3


ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Translation: The most Gracious, The most Merciful

Quran Vocabulary List From Surah al-Fatihah:4


مَـٰلِكِ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Translation: Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.

A word by word translation


1. مَلِكِ

 مَلِكٌ means "sovereign"; "king"

مَلِكِ is ism majrur (genitive case), singular and masculine noun (اسم مفرد مذكّر).

مَلِكِ is also acted as mudaf (مضاف )

مَلِكٌ is singular form. The plural form of مَلِكٌ is "مُلُوكٌ" 


Additional information

In this ayah, the word can also be read as "مَالِكٌ". It is fa'il (فَاعِل) or active participle.

مَالِكٌ means owner; possessor

The root word of  "مَالِكٌ" is  "مَلَكَ"

Fi'l madi and fi'l mudari form :  مَلَكَ - يَمْلِكُ



2. يَوْمِ

يَوْمٌ means "day"

يَوْمِ is mudaf ilaih (مضاف إليه). It is mudaf of "مَلِكِ"

يَوْمٌ is singular noun. The plural form of يَوْمٌ is "أَيَّامٌ"

So, mudaf and mudaf ilaih "مَـٰلِكِ يَوْمِ" means "The Sovereign of the Day"

In this ayah, the word "يَوْمِ" is also acted as mudaf.



3. ٱلدِّينِ

دِينٌ means faith; religion.

In this ayah, دِيْن means  الحِسابِ or judgement.

ٱلدِّينِ is mudaf ilaih. It is mudaf of يَوْمِ.

So, mudaf and mudaf ilaih "يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ"  means "the day of judgement".
