Today, I will explain to you the verb "do" in Arabic.

7. قَامَ - يَقُومُ   means: to get up; rise

8. قَامَ بِ - يَقُومُ  بِ  means: to carry out; execute; do; perform

9. The word after بِ must be a noun (اسْمٌ)

1. الخَيَّاطُ يَقُومُ بِخِيَاطَةِ المَلاَبِسِ

The meaning in English: The tailor performs sewing clothes.

Basically, we can simplify the expression like the following :

- The tailor sews clothes.

- The tailor performs the dressmaking.

- The tailor makes the clothes.


The word by word translation and explanation

a. الخَيَّاطُ or خَيَّاطٌ  means tailor; dressmaker.


b. The word after يَقُومُ بِ  must be a noun, so خِيَاطَةٌ is a noun.

خِيَاطٌ  is ism masdar (noun verb) from the verb  خَاطَ - يَخُوْطُ

خَاطَ - يَخُوْطُ  or   خَاطَ - يَخِيطُ   means sew; make clothes as a tailor.


c. المَلاَبِسُ means clothes; dress; apparel

The synonym of مَلَابِسُ is : لِبَاسٌ



2. الصُحُفِيُّ يَقُومُ بِنَشْرِ الجَرِيْدَةِ

The meaning: The journalist does newspaper publishing.

We can simplify the sentence like: The journalist publishes the newspaper.


A word by word translation

a. صُحُفِيٌّ or صَحَفِيٌّ means journalist.


b. نَشْرٌ means publishing.

نَشْرٌ  is masdar from verb نَشَرَ - يَنْشُرُ

نَشَرَ - يَنْشُرُ means to publish.


c. جَرِيْدَةٌ means newspaper; journal



3. الطَّبِيْبُ يَقُومُ بِفَحْصِ المَرِيضِ

The meaning: The doctor does a medical treatment to the patient.

We can say the other expressions like: The doctor examines the patient.


A word by word translation:

a. طَبِيْبٌ = a doctor; a practitioner


b. فَحْصٌ means examining

فَحْصٌ is masdar (noun verb /gerund) of فحَصَ - يَفحَصُ

فحَصَ - يَفحَصُ means examine; check


c. مَرِيْضٌ means a patient; a person who is sick.




4. التَّاجِرُ يَقُوْمُ بِمُتَاجَرَةٍ

The meaning: The trader is doing business.

We can say like the following :

- The businessman does trading.

- The trader does selling.

- The businessman is doing the transaction.


A word by word translation

a. تَاجِرٌ means merchant; trader; businessman; seller


b. مُتَاجَرَةٌ means doing business; selling; doing transaction; trading

مُتَاجَرَةٌ is masdar (noun verb / gerund) of تَاجَرَ - يُتَاجِرُ

تَاجَرَ - يُتَاجِرُ means to do business; to sell




5. الطَّبَّاخُ يَقُوْمُ بِطَبْخِ الطَّعَامِ

The meaning: The chef does the food making.

We can say also:

- The chef cooks the food.

- The chef is cooking the food.


A word by word translation

a. طَبَّاخٌ = a chef; a person who cooks a food; cook; Kitchener


b. طَبْخٌ = cooking; food making

طَبْخٌ is masdar of طَبَخَ - يَطْبُخُ
