Zulhijjah will come soon. Many people from around the world will travel to Saudi to perform Hajj.

There is video to explain a step by step performing hajj. In addition to this, I will show you the most common Arabic words you can hear when you hajj and umrah.'

Below are the frequent Arabic terms during hajj or umrah





إِحْرَامٌ‏  = intention (motive) to perform hajj or umrah / pilgrimage state.

لِبَاسُ الْإِحْرَام   = ihram clothing / pilgrim garb

مِيْقَاتٌ  = ihram station / place where you start a hajj or umrah

تَحَلُّلٌ = get out of the state of ihram (release from ihram)

تَلْبِيَةٌ = talbiyah (devotional prayer uttered by pilgrims during hajj/umrah after entering state of ihram.

طَوَافٌ = tawaf (circling the kaba seven times)

سَعْيٌ = walking back and forth between two small hills (Safa and Marwah) seven times during hajj/umrah.

رَمْيُ الجَمَرَات  = throwing the stones/pebbles at three pillars called Jamaraat.

قُرْبَانٌ  = animal sacrifice in Islam (the animal such as a lamb or sheep is slaughtered and the meat distributed among the poor)

هَدْيٌ = the animal such as a lamb or sheep which is slaughtered and the meat distributed among the poor)

وُقُوْفٌ = standing/halting/staying at particular place (called valley arafat) at the same time the pilgrims make dua (praising Allah).

مَبِيتٌ  = travel to particular place and remain there, for example travel to Mina at 8th dhul hijjah and spending the night at there until dawn in the next morning and stay overnight to stoning the 3 pillars/jamaraat for 2 or 3 days, travel to Muzdalifa and remain there until the next morning.
