Exercise 1

In exercise 1, you will be tested whether you've already understood the concept of masculine noun and feminine noun.

The step of finishing this exercise are:

- Determine a noun, whether the noun is masculine or feminine.

- Then, you choose هَذَا for masculine noun, and هَذِهِ for feminine noun.

Answers and explanation

1. قَلَمٌ is masculine noun (mudhakkar), so you say هَذَا قَلَمٌ

2. مِلْعَقَةٌ (spoon) is feminine noun (mu-annath), because it is ended with ta marbutah (ة), so you say هَذِهِ مِلْعَقَةٌ

3. كِتَابٌ (book) => masculine => هَذَا

4. قَمِيْصٌ (shirt) => masculine => هَذَا

5. بَيْتٌ (house) => masculine => هَذَا

6. سَاعَةٌ (watch) => feminine, because it is ended with ta marbutah => هَذِهِ

7. سَيَّارَةٌ (car) => feminine, because it is ended with ta marbutah => هَذِهِ

8. بَابٌ (door) => masculine => هَذَا

9. دَرَّاجَةٌ (bicycle) => feminine, because it is ended with ta marbutah => هَذِهِ

10. رِجْلٌ (foot) => feminine, because it is double member of the body => هَذِهِ

11. يَدٌ (hand) => feminine, because it is double member of the body => هَذِهِ

12. أَنْفٌ (nose) => masculine => هَذَا

13. فَمٌ (mouth) => masculine => هَذَا

14. قِدْرٌ (pot) => feminine (it's sama'i, we know this noun is feminine from the Arabic dictionary/Arab native speaker) => هَذِهِ

15. مِفْتَاحٌ (key) => masculine => هَذَا

16. مِكْوَاةٌ (iron) => feminine, because it is ended with ta marbutah => هَذِهِ

17. كُرْسِيٌّ (chair) => masculine => هَذَا

18. ثَلاَّجَةٌ (fridge) => feminine, it is ended with ta marbutah => هَذِهِ

19. مَسْجِدٌ (mosque) => masculine => هَذَا

20. نَجْمٌ (star) => masculine => هَذَا

Exercise 2

Step to answer: change the predicate (khabar) in the right column to feminine form.

1. فَاطِمَةُ طَبِيْبَةٌ = Fatima is a doctor.

2. هِيَ مُسْلِمَةٌ = She is a Muslim.

3. النَّافِذَةُ مُغْلَقَةٌ =  The window is closed.

4. اليَدُ وَسِخَةٌ = the hand is dirty.

5. القَهْوَةُ حَارَّةٌ = the coffee is hot.

6. المَدْرَسَةُ بَعِيْدَةٌ = The school is far.

7. الطَّالِبَةُ مَرِيْضَةٌ = The female student is sick.

8. السَّيَّارَةُ سَرِيْعَةٌ = The car is fast.

9. الشَّمْسُ جَمِيْلَةٌ = The sun is beautiful.

10. الأُمُّ جَالِسَةٌ = The mother is sitting.
 

Exercise 3

Correct the sentence.

1. حَقِيْبَةُ مَنْ هَذِهِ؟ = Whose bag is this?

2. الغُرْفَةُ مَفْتُوْحَةٌ = The room is opened.

3. هَذِهِ سَيَّارَةُ الطَّبِيْبِ = This is the doctor's car.

4. هَذَا مِفْتَاحُ السَّيَّارَةِ = This is the car key.

5. أَيْنَ السَّيَّارَةُ؟ هِيَ فِي الشَّارِعِ = Where is the car? It is on the street.
