Definite & Indefinite Noun in Arabic - Durusul lughah vol 1 lesson 3


I will continue on new subject in Durus al-lughah al-arabiyyah book 1. Now, we will discuss about lesson 3, definite noun and indefinite noun in Arabic.





Indefinite and Definite noun in Arabic


Rules


- Indefinite noun is called نَكِرَةٌ , whereas definite noun in Arabic is  مَعْرِفَةٌ


- An indefinite noun ( نَكِرَةٌ   ) is indicated by tanween ( تَنْوِيْنٌ  ).

Tanween is double vowel sign at the end of the word, example:

a book = كِتَابٌ  (kitaabun)


- A definite noun is indicated by prefix (اَلْ ) and no tanween.

Example:

The book = الْكِتَابُ



Sentence examples in Arabic and the meaning


القَلَمُ مَكْسُوْرٌ = the pen is broken.

البَابُ مَفْتُوْحٌ = the door is opened.

الوَلَدُ جَالِسٌ , وَالْمُدَرِّسُ وَاقِفٌ  = the boy is sitting and the teacher is standing.
